Where neither parent can be present due to force majeure, any relative of the minor may appear, authorised by one parent and also submitting the written consent of the other. The handwritten signatures of the parents are certified as above. If neither such authorisation nor written consent can be provided, a guardian must be appointed and the supporting documents are submitted, as applicable, by the persons provided for in Articles 1601 and 1602 of the Civil Code. Description
The competent officer verifies the applicant's identity by checking the identity document (identity card) carried by the applicant and cross-checking the data in Hellenic Police databases. In cases of minors under 12 years of age or permanent residents abroad who do not have an identity card, the identity check is carried out through the Citizens' Register, by printing the corresponding certificate (birth or family status certificate). A search is then carried out in the Greek Passport Register to check whether a passport has previously been issued to the same person and its status.
Finally, compliance with the legal requirements for issuance of a Greek passport is checked through third-party Hellenic Police applications.
