The selection process is carried out between 15 and 30 June of each school year and in exceptional cases, if the examinations are not held in June, between 1 and 11 September of each school year, by decision of the Regional Director of Education, issued on the proposal of the Music School Teachers Association and the recommendation of the relevant Directorate of Primary Education.

              Description The guardians of students wishing to participate in the selection procedure submit only one application during the period from 2 to 31 May each year, to the Music School of the county where they have their permanent residence or to the Music School to which they belong if there is more than one Music School in the county where they have their permanent residence.

            • 2 Establishment of a Selection Committee for each Music School

              Notes In the case where there are more than one hundred and twenty (120) candidates, two Selection Committees are appointed and for each additional one hundred and twenty (120) candidates, one additional Selection Committee is appointed. In these cases, a General Selection Committee (GSC) of the Music School is formed, which supervises the Selection Committees and is appointed by the same decision of the Regional Director of Education in whose region the Music School is located.

            • 3 Examination/selection procedure and communication of the results table


              Description The subjects in which students are assessed for enrolment in the first grade of the Music School are: rhythm, aural ability, vocal ability, discrimination of timbre and optionally a musical instrument (European or traditional), at a level at least equivalent to that of the Lower School. The Scientific Committee for Music Education selects the examination questions for the students participating in the selection process as well as the supporting material (audio file, instructions, forms, etc.), forwards them to the competent Directorate of the Ministry of Education, which then sends them electronically to the President of the Committee. If a Scientific Committee is formed, the General Scientific Committee sends them to the President of the General Scientific Committee of each Music School, and they are decoded in front of all the members of the committee before the start of the examination procedure. At the end of the selection procedure, the Selection Committee meets at the invitation of its President and, on the basis of the special examination sheets, draws up a list of the results of those examined in descending order of merit, with the record number of the candidates application form being entered in the list instead of the names of the pupils. The list of results shall be posted at the School of Music on the last day of the examination or, at the latest, the following day, for the information of the persons concerned. The list is also forwarded to the relevant Directorate of Secondary Education. Successful candidates are those who have obtained at least fifty (50) marks.

            • 4 Registration of students/three at the School of Music


              Description The number of students registered in the first grade of Music Middle Schools is proportional to the number of sections. In the event that there are up to three (3) tied for the last place on the admission list, they are admitted in excess of the number of students who will attend the first grade of the Gymnasium. In the event that the tied for the last position is more than three (3), a lottery shall be held to select three (3) students. The draw shall be conducted by the Selection Committee or - if it has been constituted - by the General Selection Committee under the responsibility of the Headmaster of the school. The drawing of lots shall be the subject of an act signed by the participants in the drawing of lots. The guardians of the tied candidates may be present at the drawing of lots. For the procedure of admission of students to the first grade of the Music Schools, a relevant circular is issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Registration of students who will attend the first grade of the Music Middle Schools is carried out according to the admission list after the June selection examinations, and takes place from 1 to 8 September each year. The guardians of the students selected according to the admission list shall receive from the Music School a relevant Service Note by any appropriate means, which they shall present to the secondary school where the student is enrolled after his/her graduation from the Primary School in order to complete the transfer.In the event that, due to the transfer of students to another high school or for any other reason, there are vacancies to fill the limit of twenty-four (24) students in the first grade of the Music Middle School, these vacancies will be filled up to the limit of twenty-four (24) from the list of runners-up in descending order of success. After 31 October of each school year, the reserve list shall cease to be valid.
