Notes: -Attestations of experience shall be issued either by Shipping Chemists who are already entitled to practice the profession or by shipbuilding and repair companies. Certificates of experience from licensed Shipping Chemists who are not licensed in Greece or from another country of the European Union or from shipbuilding companies operating in countries outside the European Union shall not be accepted, unless otherwise required by transnational agreements. -The above attestation shall be accompanied by a dated logbook of inspected tankers which shall include: - date / time of inspection - name of tanker - ship register number - anchorage - captain’s name - ship areas examined -The logbook shall be signed for each tanker in question by the marine chemist who is already entitled to practice the profession or the person in charge of the shipbuilding and repair base. -For refineries, the units inspected by the candidate shall be mentioned, such as Tanks, Containers, Reactors, Pipelines, etc.

Prior Service
At least one year of experience in hazardous gas inspections on ships and vessels.
-The candidate shall have inspected at least sixty (60) distinct tankers. Among these, five (5) shall be chemical cargo and one LPG.
-Candidates possessing an attestation of experience of at least one year from a Navy naval base or from Oil Refineries, shall also have inspected, in cooperation with a Marine Chemist who is already entitled to practice the profession, or in a shipbuilding base, at least thirty (30) distinct tankers. Of these tankers, two (2) will be chemical cargo and one LPG.

Educational
Training in general safety principles for tankers and other ships, general knowledge of hazardous cargo, gas measurements, use of laboratory equipment, and knowledge of the contents of JMD 3232/41/89.
Ascertained by oral examination; a report is issued by the competent committee.

Existence of shipbuilding and repair facilities and completeness and good operation of the equipment, as defined in Article 5 of the Annex of JMD 3232/41/89.

Description The interested party submits to the Protocol Office of the Central Service of the General Chemical Laboratory of the State (GXK) or to the Citizen Service Centre-Single Service Centre (KEP-EKE) an Application –Solemn declaration for the granting of a license (attestation of meeting of legal conditions for the exercise of the profession) of a marine chemist, accompanied by the required supporting documents.

Inspection of the laboratory equipment (completeness and good functioning) of the candidate

Μethod of Implementation Inspection
Description Task force of two chemists of the competent Chemical Service conducts a on-site inspection of his/her laboratory equipment in order to assure completeness and good functioning and prepares relevant report, as prescribed in the paragraphs 1 and 2, article 5 of the Annex of JMD 3232-41/1989.
Notes In case of a negative opinion, the interested party is notified and may come back with an application to the Chemical Service asking for a re-examination of his/her laboratory equipment after having restored any deficiencies or malfunctioning found during the first examination.

Certificate dispatch

Description In case of positive opinion, the Chemical Service sends the Attestation (Certificate) of Fulfilment the Legal Prerequisites to the interested party, then forwards it to Port Authority with notification to the Directorate of Energy, Industrial and Chemical Products.
