Description

The procedure relates to the preparation and issuance of a birth certificate by a Greek Consular Authority. The competent local Consular Authority in whose region the birth took place draws up a birth certificate. When the birth certificate is drawn up, it is automatically forwarded by the Consular Authority to the competent Municipality for registration in the population registers and, when it concerns males, in the Register of Males.

The procedure followed by a Consular Authority in the case of the drawing up and issuing of a birth certificate is as follows: on the date of the statement the parent concerned comes to the Authority, presenting the necessary supporting documents such as the country of birth, in the case of a newborn child’s certificate, in the case of a newborn child’s certificate, and supplementing the relevant application, requested by the child’s documents and by the parents’ data (name, surname, profession, etc.). Nationality and registration data in the municipality of the parents, which are also required, are contained in the family status certificate, which is automatically sought by the Consular Authority. Based on the documents presented, the family status certificate and the evidence supplemented by the parent in the application, followed by the declaration of birth, signed by the parent and the consulate.
