The procedure concerns the recognition of foreign academic degrees of third-cycle education. The interested parties submit their applications electronically using the platform:

Following the entry into the platform, interested parties may apply for the necessary supporting documents and be informed of the evolution and history of their applications.
The recognition procedure is addressed to PhD holders of foreign academic institutions and consists of the equivalence of qualifications in relation to the doctoral degrees awarded by Greek higher educational institutions.

Notes:
The application serves as a solemn declaration under Article 8 of Law 1599/1986 (VAT I75) concerning the information referred to therein and the documents submitted with it. The inaccuracy of the information given in the application entail the criminal and administrative penalties provided for. Foreign citizens without a VAT number must be identified by the Organisation and then having their access data (user name and password) sent on the portal.

A copy of the third-cycle degree (doctorate) that is requested to be recognised, which either
A) will bear a certification of the authenticity of the signatures in accordance with the Hague Convention (APOSTILLE stamp) * (explanation below) and then legally certified by one of the following Greek authorities:
i) the translation service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece
or ii) a Greek lawyer
or iii) the Embassy/Consulate of Greece in the country where the document is issued.
In addition, an official translation** (explained below) must be submitted if the title is issued in a language other than Greek, English or French.

B) If it does not bear a certification for the authenticity of signatures according to the Hague Convention (APOSTILLE stamp) and if the title is issued in Greek, English or French, a simple copy of the title can be attached to the application but the applicant must inform the University to send it to the DOATAP for comparison.

EXPLANATIONS
- The APOSTILLE stamp on the above documents is affixed by the competent authority in the country of issue. More information here. For those countries that have not ratified the Hague Convention and only for these countries the visa is issued by the local Greek Consular Authorities.
- Official translations of the above documents (unless they are in Greek, English or French) are provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the contact person: Registry of Certified Translators - https://www.mfa.gr/ypiresies-gia-ton-politi/metafrastiki-ypiresia/i-metaphrastiki-ypiresia.html (mfa.gr), or by the local Greek Consular Authorities, or by a graduate translator of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation of the Ionian University, or by a lawyer in Greece who certifies that the document in question is a translation.
