6 Other Μeasures for active fire protection must be in taken, according to the relevant risk category Category A – Low Risk This includes: i) public gathering places with a theoretical population (as calculated on the basis of the applicable fire-fighting legislation) less than or equal to 150 persons that do not use LPG (bottles or tanks) for their operational needs; ii) shops (food retail or service shops) with an area of less than or equal to 1,000 square meters. iii) Funeral homes Operators of activities belonging to category A and housed in existing buildings (building permit before 02/1989), are exempted from the obligation to prepare an active fire protection study - floor plans and a summary study of LPG storage. Exceptions are made in cases where it is impossible to comply with the terms of the provisions and deviations are requested. In new buildings (building permit after 02/1989) the obligation to prepare and submit a passive and/or active fire protection study where required is still in force, in accordance with the provisions of article 15 of the PD 71/1988 (GG 32A) as in force. Category A operators are exempted from the obligation to obtain an (active) fire protection certificate, but must comply with and maintain the fire protection measures and means required by current legislation, which will be reflected in floor plans that are part of the file to be kept in the holding. Category B - Medium Risk This includes: i) public gathering places with a theoretical population (as calculated on the basis of the applicable fire-fighting legislation) of more than 150 persons as well as public gathering places regardless of capacity that use LPG (bottles or tanks) for their operational needs and ii) stores (food retailers or service stores) of over 1.000 square meters as well as stores, independently of their area, that store LPG cylinders over 200 kg. In category B, the operators must, within fifty (50) days from the date of submission of the notification, take all the necessary actions in order to be provided by the relevant Fire Service with an (active) fire protection certificate, which will be kept in the business file. Category C - High Risk This includes: Theatres and cinemas. In category C, the operators must, before the date of submission of the notification, take all the necessary actions in order to have been provided by the relevant Fire Service with a certificate of (active) fire protection which will be kept in the installation file.
