Title

Application for registering the juvenile child of a Greek citizen in the municipal register

Notes:

The procedure applies exclusively to juvenile children who, at the time of their birth, automatically acquire Greek citizenship by virtue of being born to one or both Greek parents who already held Greek citizenship at the time of their childs birth. The parents (at least one Greek parent) must be registered in the municipal register. The marriage of the parents of the juvenile child, and the birth of the child must be registered in the civil registry to satisfy the requirements for automatic acquisition of Greek citizenship upon birth. Applications are submitted by the Greek parent to the municipality where they are registered. In the case of divorced or separated parents, the application is submitted by the person with custody of the juvenile child. In the case of joint custody of children, the application is submitted either jointly or by the parent in whose family register the juvenile child is registered in the municipal register. In the case of residents abroad, the application is submitted to the competent Greek consular authority in the applicant’s place of domicile.
